Project Lead The Way

Project Lead the Way (PLTW) is nationally-recognized program that offers students the opportunity to engage in compelling, real-world challenges that help them become better collaborators and thinkers. OLCHS offers a four-course sequence in the PLTW Engineering sequence, offering students multiple opportunities to develop solutions to real-world problems.  Introduction to Engineering Design (IED) is a course for all who are interested in engineering and 3D modeling. Principles of Engineering (POE) is the introduction to multiple different areas of engineering, including coding and robotics. In Civil Engineering and Architecture (CEA), students learn the important aspects of building and site design development and students work through hands-on site planning activities as well as in teams to complete 3D Architectural Designs. As the culminating experience in our PLTW Engineering program, students in the Engineering Design and Development (EDD) course worked in small groups to research and choose a problem in society that needs to be solved. They spent the entire year creating and engineering a solutionto that problem. Groups are independent learners, and present their solutions (with prototypes) at a year-end event in front of judges and an audience.
